The chop house tradition is about hearty eating, good company, fine wines and ales.
Chop houses are a great British tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Originally, they were men only establishments where businessmen gathered to hatch deals over plates of traditionally cooked meats washed down by fine wines and good ales.
At their height in the 19th century, they remained stubbornly British in the face of the new wave of continental cooking that was sweeping the country and, eventually conceding that women might be welcome addition, a few of the best have survived.
At Jacobs Chop House we carry on this tradition but with a contemporary slant, to include vegetarian and fish dishes as well as the classics in our monthly changing menus.
